Story
Our beautiful boy Henry will be joining the Big three Trek team for the last 100m to McDonald Jones Stadium for the NRL Beanies for Brain Cancer Round to help raise awareness and funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation.
On the 7 June 2023, exactly 10 weeks after the birth of our first daughter Mia, my beautiful four year old son Henry was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, an aggressive grade IV brain cancer. Following a 9 hour surgery to remove the golf ball sized tumour in his brain, Henry developed posterior fossa syndrome due to the invasive nature of the procedure which caused debilitating impacts on his speech and mobility function, seeing him confined to a wheelchair and unable to talk. After completing 30 radiation treatments and 4 cycles of intense chemotherapy, I am overjoyed to share that Henry has completed treatment, is now in remission and been declared NED (no evidence of disease) by his medical team.
We are so incredibly proud of our Henry for the courage he displayed through his suffering. Henry was such a trooper during his treatment journey and he has taught us so much about what it means to face up to life’s challenges with his trusting spirit and ability to smile through the hardest of times. Although we know it will be a long road ahead to recovery in Henry’s rehabilitation, (and he can’t wait to get back on the rugby field!) we are so proud of how far he has come already. We love him so much and we are honoured to be his parents.

The Mark Hughes Foundation’s mission is to raise much needed funds for research, to create awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families.
